Sugar—especially the processed kind—is highly addictive, and many believe our culture’s constant consumption of it contributes to chronic disease. Processed sugars, like those found in store-bought whipped cream, offer zero nutritional value and are often paired with fillers and chemicals. That’s why I decided to start making my own whipped cream at home, and honestly, it’s way easier than I expected! This homemade, healthy whipped cream is just two simple ingredients, that’s it, and it takes less than 5 minutes to whip up. If you are wanting to gain some confidence in the kitchen and add more nutrients to your diet, start with this simple swap.

Why you Should Make Whipped Cream at Home
As a holistic nutritionist, I love making homemade meals and desserts because it allows me to choose high-quality, nourishing ingredients. If you’re just starting your health journey and feeling overwhelmed, beginning with simple recipes can be a great way to build confidence in the kitchen—and to really taste the difference that quality ingredients make. One helpful tip: having the right tools, like a whisk or electric mixer, can make the process much easier and more enjoyable.
Take whipped cream, for example. A popular store-bought brand contains two types of processed, GMO-derived sugars, several food additives—including carrageenan, which has been linked to digestive issues and even cancer—and vague “natural flavors,” which often aren’t natural at all. These chemically altered flavorings don’t have to be fully disclosed. In contrast, homemade whipped cream is made with just two simple ingredients and gives you full control over what you’re putting into your body. It’s a small but powerful way to support your health and well-being from the inside out.

Homemade Healthy Whipped Cream Ingredients
Like I mentioned above, for this recipe you only need two ingredients. There are a few additional items you can add in if desired, but when I make this homemade healthy whipped cream I like to keep it as simple as possible. Since there are so few ingredients, you can choose the best quality options, organic, grass-fed, raw, to ensure you are getting the most nutrients possible. Even a dessert can be healthy when you are using quality ingredients that add to your nutrient stores.
- Heavy Whipping Cream: When purchasing heavy whipping cream from the grocery store, look for grass-fed, organic and low-temp pasteurized. Choosing organic milk ensures you and your family are not consuming added hormones, like reproductive hormones and choosing grass-fed, low-temp pasteurized milk retains more nutrients than conventional. If you are able to find a local grass-fed option, that is even better but be sure to talk with the farmer and understand their practices. My favorite heavy whipping cream to buy from the grocery store is from Kalona Supernatural.
- Honey: I love to choose a raw, local honey. I recently got my own bee hive and I can not wait for the bees to be producing some of their own honey but until then I will choose a local, raw source. Choosing local, raw honey is the best option for those that suffer with springtime allergies, because it can introduce small amounts of local pollen into your diet, helping you to build up immunity. Also, food just tastes better when you know it is providing nutrients for your body. If needed you can also swap honey for organic maple syrup.
- Additions: If you would like you could also add in vanilla or cinnamon to your homemade whipped cream. In the winter, I love to add in cinnamon when I am using the whipped cream to top hot chocolate. Cinnamon has also been shown to help keep blood sugar balanced, so it is a great addition to a sweet treat.

How to Make Homemade Healthy Whipped Cream
This recipe is so simple and takes little to no time and effort to create. All you have to do is add heavy whipping cream and honey to a bowl and whip together for approximately 3-5 minutes or until stiff peaks form. You want it to resemble greek yogurt in consistency. Just a little tip, add the whipping cream to the bowl first, then drizzle the honey over top. This will prevent the honey from sticking to the bottom of the bowl and not being incorporated into the whipped cream. I’m sure you can use a hand whisk if you are wanting a bit of a workout but a handheld mixer or counter top mixer, with a whisk attachment will help you to make this recipe super quickly. To store whipped cream, place it in an airtight container and keep it in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

Nothing more delicious than a bowl of whipped cream sweetened with honey! I wished we could find good quality heavy cream in Canada, but thankfully I live close enough to the States and can buy it there. Thank you for sharing this recipe 🙂
