These homemade gut-healthy chocolate popsicles are the ultimate summer treat—sweet, chocolatey, and guilt-free. They’re loaded with probiotics and nutrients that support digestive health while satisfying your sweet tooth. Perfect for both kids and adults!

I love making all kinds of treats during the summer, but popsicles are a family favorite. These gut-healthy chocolate popsicles are our go-to after a day at the beach, working in the yard, or tending to our bees. They’re refreshing, delicious, and I especially love that they’re a wholesome treat for my toddler.
Gut health plays a crucial role in your overall well-being. It’s been linked to everything from digestion and immune function to mood regulation, inflammation, and beyond. Taking care of your gut means supporting your entire body. If you are a mom or caregiver, these popsicles are an easy way to enhance your little ones gut health.
Importance of Gut Health
Gut health is essential for overall well-being, as the gut plays a central role in digestion, nutrient absorption, immune function, and even mental health. A balanced gut microbiome—made up of trillions of beneficial bacteria—helps break down food, produce vital nutrients, and protect against harmful pathogens. Poor gut health has been linked to conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, obesity, and depression. Maintaining a healthy gut through a diet rich in fiber, fermented foods like yogurt, and limited processed ingredients can support a strong immune system and a more balanced mood, helping you and your kids to have better overall health.

Gut Healthy Chocolate Popsicle Ingredients
Yogurt – Yogurt is a gut healthy option, especially if you choose a brand that includes added probiotics. I like the brand Nancy’s, specifically their probiotic yogurts. The addition of healthy bacteria can help to balance gut bacteria, supporting gut health. I chose a plain yogurt to minimize sugar but you can choose a vanilla option too. For a creamier texture choose greek yogurt.
Raw Milk– Raw milk is a great option for these gut healthy popsicles because it includes probiotics and nutrients that support your overall health and well being. IF you don’t have access to raw milk, choose a low-temp pasteurized brand like Kalona Supernatural, to ensure you are still getting added nutrients.
Colostrum– Colostrum is a super food for your gut. Nutrients found in colostrum have been shown to support gut health by reducing inflammation and repairing the gut lining. Colostrum can be very beneficial for those with food sensitives and those with a weaken immune system. For more information about the benefits of colostrum for gut health, check out this article. You can choose to use one or two scoops of colostrum in this recipe, if you are just starting out, choose one and then work your way up to two.
Maple Syrup– I chose organic maple syrup for these gut healthy chocolate popsicles because it pairs well with chocolate and is a less refined sugar. Still rich in nutrients that support overall health, maple syrup is better to use than white sugar, but if you would like to choose honey, raw is a great option for gut health. You can choose to use one or two tablespoons of maple syrup, depending on how sweet you would like the popsicles to be.
Cacao Powder– Organic cacao powder gives this gut healthy popsicle recipe it’s chocolatey taste and helps to promote gut health through fiber that acts as prebiotics. Prebiotics help to feed beneficial gut bacteria supporting your gut. Choose an organic, regenerative brand, like Navitas, if possible. Choose one or two tablespoons of cacao for the recipe depending on how chocolatey you would like it to be.
Vanilla Extract– This ingredient is optional but I like how the vanilla pairs with the chocolate and gives the popsicles an extra sweetness. Choose an organic vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste.

How to Make Gut Healthy Chocolate Popsicles
- Combine all of the ingredients together in a large mixing bowl.
- Whisk to combine and make sure all of the cacao powder is fully incorporated. If you would like you could also use a blender and then allow the mixture to rest for a bit if there are any bubbles at the top.
- Pour mixture into popsicles molds and place in the freezer until frozen. This could take a few hours or you could freeze them over night. This recipe made the exact amount I needed to fill 8 small sized popsicle, molds, if your popsicle molds are large, like average size popsicles you may want to double the recipe.
Gut Healthy Popsicle Modifications
If you don’t like chocolate or would prefer to not give it to your little one, you can easily modify this recipe. Instead of chocolate use carob powder for the chocolate taste without the caffeine or combine all of the ingredients in a blender with fresh or frozen organic fruit.

Tips and Tricks
- As mentioned above, choose organic yogurt that includes added probiotics. Make sure to read the ingredient label on the back of the yogurt, look for healthy bacteria like Lactobacillus bulgaricus.
- For optimal gut health choose yogurt that doesn’t include added sugars.
- When choosing a colostrum, don’t be tricked into thinking the trendy brands are the best. Look for an option that comes from grass-fed cows, is full fat, not stripped of nutrients or includes added fillers and is tested for heavy metals and glyphosate. Shop my favorite brand below.
- When you pour the mixture into the popsicle molds it can be helpful to tap the molds on the counter a few times to release the bubbles. Once they are all to the top you can use a popsicle stick to stir the mixture so that the popsicles will be nice and smooth when frozen.
- When removing the popsicles from the mold, it can be helpful to run the bottom part of the mold under cool water, then try to remove the popsicles. Or if you can stand it, wrap your hands around the mold to warm them a little.

Ohh this kind of recipe is just for me!
Have you tried them in molds that aren’t plastic?
I need to get some but I don’t want to buy plastic ones.
I haven’t yet. I need to get some too! I still have a few things that I need to transition to non-toxic. I’m sure silicon molds would work great! I’d love to hear if you end up trying them.
