Homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte Ingredients
Espresso – a shade grown or mold free coffee is my favorite choice for this homemade latte recipe. For my favorite non toxic coffee brands, see the “shop this post” section below. I use regular coffee and grind it really fine instead of buying espresso.
Milk – Choose whole milk and an organic, low-temp pasteurized brand if possible. I use raw and choose not to heat it too hot to retain the nutrients.
Pumpkin Puree – This gives the latte a natural pumpkin flavor and creates the fun orange color.
Maple Syrup – Maple syrup adds nutrients and sweetness to the latte and it pairs really well with the pumpkin and spices.
Pumpkin Spice and Cinnamon – Choose organic not treated options, that will give this latte that punch of fall flavor.
Vanilla – An optional ingredient, but it pairs really well with the pumpkin and helps to round out all of the flavors.

Ingredient Modifications
- If you don’t have espresso you can use regular brewed coffee. Brew the coffee a bit strong if you can for that extra flavor.
- Instead of regular milk you could use coconut milk. Coconut milk will alter the flavor a bit but will still give the latte a creamy consistency.
- As an alternative to maple syrup you could use honey or coconut sugar. These are both great, nutritious options.
- If you want to try this homemade pumpkin spice latte but don’t love pumpkin spice you can just use cinnamon. I often made this with just Ceylon cinnamon and it is just as delicious.

How to Make this Healthy, Homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte
- First, add your pumpkin puree, spices, maple syrup and vanilla to a large mug or bowl. I love to add the spices here because I feel like adding the warm coffee over top makes them more aromatic. Adding the spices here is completely optional and may be a little silly but it works for me!
- Next, make your shot of espresso or brew your coffee. Add this to your mug or bowl, over top of the puree and spices, so that you can whisk or stir them together.
- Now whisk the espresso and puree together or stir to combine.
- Heat and froth the milk next. You can use your espresso machine for this or heat the milk over the stove then use an electric frother to froth the milk.
- Once the milk is warm and frothy, pour it into your espresso and puree and enjoy.
- If you desire, top with more cinnamon or with a dollop of homemade whipped cream.
